About Kutch

I developed a lasting interest in wines from coastal vineyards while tasting and learning the craft of winemaking in Sonoma. After leaving a career as a NASDAQ trader in New York, Kristen Green and I moved to California with the intention of building a life centered on agriculture and wine. I apprenticed with an established producer and learned through hands on experience, gradually refining an approach focused on restraint, balance, and the transparent expression of place.

From the beginning, I was drawn to the character of fruit grown in cold maritime conditions. The clarity, natural acidity, and quiet intensity of wines from the Sonoma Coast and the Santa Cruz Mountains stood apart from those grown farther inland. Those early tastings and cellar experiences convinced me that many of California’s most compelling Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays would come from these coastal sites, and that they would reward a patient, minimalist approach in both the vineyard and the cellar.

Kutch Wines was founded in 2005 with a singular focus on Pinot Noir from these cool climate regions. Production grew slowly as suitable vineyards were identified and secured and Chardonnay prodcution began in 2014. The goal has always been to work with well positioned sites with appropriate soils, and to allow each wine to reflect its vineyard and vintage without excess intervention.

In the cellar, grapes are handled gently, sorted carefully, and moved by gravity. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeast and native malolactic bacteria. All punch downs are performed by foot. The wines are aged entirely in neutral French oak barrels, with no new oak, and remain on their fine lees without racking until bottling, typically between eleven and sixteen months after harvest. The intent is to preserve purity and balance while avoiding over manipulation.

Over time, the portfolio expanded to include a small number of single vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from the Sonoma Coast and the Santa Cruz Mountains. The wines have found a following among collectors and restaurants for their freshness, clarity, and sense of place, while remaining produced in limited quantities.

Kutch: A Brief History

2005

Kutch Wines is founded, focused on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast and the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Late 2000s

Single vineyard bottlings are introduced as long term relationships with coastal growers are established and production grows deliberately.

2010s

The wines gain wider recognition for their balance and site expression, with placements on leading restaurant lists and growing international distribution.

2020s

Jamie and Kristen acquire a twelve acre estate in Sebastopol and begin establishing their first estate vineyard.

Present

Following Sonoma Counties recent approval, plans are underway for a dedicated winery and tasting facility on the Sebastopol estate, anchoring the long term vision of farming and producing wine on property they own.

Kutch Wines remains a family owned and operated winery guided by patience, restraint, and respect for place. Jamie leads viticulture and winemaking, while Kristen continues her work in public relations and the development of the estate. Together, their work reflects a shared belief that meaningful wines are built slowly, deliberately, and in close connection to the land they come from.
